CanSkate
CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate group program geared to beginners of all ages. Participants learn a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills which are designed to prepare skaters for all ice sports requiring skates, including recreational skating.
The North Bay Skating Club CanSkate programs are set to music and offer a fun, friendly and inclusive environment, focusing on continuous movement. Sessions are led by coaches certified by the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), and by trained Program Assistants.
Skaters will be assessed during the first couple of sessions and grouped according to skill level. From then on, skaters are continuously assessed using the National standardized assessment structure. Report cards and incentives are provided at no cost to the skater, at various points during the season.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum age requirement is typically age four and older.
- Skaters must be able to get up by themselves after falling and be able to shuffle forwards unassisted.
- Parents are not allowed on the ice.
- Skaters not meeting these requirements can consider joining PreCanSkate.
- A CSA approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters in the CanSkate and PreCanSkate programs.
